Happy Sunday, I hope your day is going well! I’m actually writing this on Thursday because I just found out I’m getting my wisdom teeth out on Friday…:( I knew I would most likely not be in the mood to create a new post for Sunday so I’m covering it now! Today, I wanted to talk about something on a more personal level. While I love sharing recipes and health tips with you, I feel drawn to touch on something I have to remind myself of often and I’m sure many of you do as well. That is…reminding myself to focus on me. Now, in no way do I mean this is to be self-centered so, hear me out! My life can get pretty hectic. I often find myself so caught up in the craziness of my daily routine that I forget to stop and enjoy the many small, beautiful parts of every day. With school, yoga, the blog, cheerleading and various other activities, I can really easily get lost in my head. Once I started to recognize this more and more, I knew I needed to do something about it.
This past weekend, my Mom and I went out for a quick lunch and headed over to our local flower market. For as long as I can remember, I’ve Loved flowers. There’s something magical about them. The fact that something SO beautiful grows naturally from our earth fascinates me. While I was browsing the shop, I felt a sense of ease; a sense of happiness. I took a moment and realized this small, beautiful feeling was just what I needed. I then started noticing just how often we have these throughout our daily lives. Whether we know it or not, they fill our days and it’s our job to notice and appreciate them. A bright sunrise, a piping hot cup of fresh brewed coffee, a long, warm hug from a loved one. All things many of us, including myself, often take for granted.
The title of this post is “Putting Your Wellbeing First”. This idea has been on my mind for a while now. In yoga before every practice, I set my intention. I don’t put hours of thought into it to make it perfect. I simply think about what’s been on my mind and dedicate my practice to that. This week, My wellbeing has been a reoccurring one. Changing my focus from getting in the hardest workout and torching the most calories to doing what feels good to me; listening to my mind and body and reflecting that in my practice. This has transformed my yoga. It has re-ignited the fire in my body and mind that first got me hooked on yoga. I’m so so grateful for this.
So, today I challenge you to reflect on what makes you happiest; the little, beautiful things in your life. Notice, accept and LOVE them. Allow your perspective to shift from what it is to what you want it to be. Something I have to remind myself of daily is that happiness is a choice. No material thing, job, person, car, or weight will give us the happiness that the beauty of today will. Stop chasing after what your mind tells you will make you happy and live for what actually does!
