Hope your week is going well so far! Today is the most beautiful day here in ATX. Sunny and 75 degrees… absolute perfection. Yesterday, while I was sitting outside enjoying my lunch, I realized how vital this daily outside time is for me. I look forward to it every day. Spending just that hour in the middle of a school day is incredibly refreshing and grounding. I do my best to set my phone aside, relax and enjoy the present moment. This year as I’ve begun to spend more and more time outside during my day, I realized how much it directly affects my overall mood and mental clarity. After spending multiple hours working inside at school, taking in a breath of fresh air is just what I need! Come to find out, our bodies and minds thrive off of this natural energy source. I started to research this topic and came across some really interesting stuff! Vitamin D can be a tricky nutrient to be sufficient in. When we spend so much of our time inside, staring at a screen, we can fall into a mental fog that’s difficult to escape. By spending an hour more outside per day, we can greatly increase our overall Vitamin D levels, which help support bone/ cell growth, inflammation reduction and immune function. These are all vital areas of our health that we can easily strengthen by sitting in the sunshine, breathing in some fresh air. For me personally, this time is incredibly beneficial for my overall mental wellness. Taking the time to breathe easy, relax and just be is something we should all strive to give our body every day. I’m incredibly lucky to live in such an active, outdoors focused city so taking my workouts/ personal time outside usually isn’t a problem. My goal for this new month is to take time everyday to step outside, focus on my breath and simply be in the moment. I challenge each of you to take time today, tomorrow and everyday to sit outside and take in the beauty that surrounds you. This simple addition to your routine will easily brighten your day… Promise! I hope you all enjoyed this quick little snippet and can begin to incorporate it into your life. See you this weekend!
