I’m so excited to be back here with you guys! My schedule has been the definition of crazy lately… But, now that spring break is behind us, I will be able to get back to a more regular posting schedule. This weekend, I was enjoying a delicious, loaded green smoothie, thinking about what I wanted to write this week. Then, it came to me. Smoothies are one of my all-time favorite go-to breakfasts. They’re easy, delicious and the best way to pack in a bunch of nutrient dense foods that are easy for your body to digest and fully process. I love expiermenting with new add-ins and superfoods every day (which I’ve just recently gotten into), simply because I had been overwhelmed by the various different ingredients I saw others using. What do they do? Why do I need it? Those thoughts crossed my mind multiple times. While I’m no doctor, I’ve started to navigate the superfood world and I’m digging it. Below, I’m going to briefly talk about the benefits of my favorite superfoods at the moment. These are nutrient-dense, accessible ingredients that I promise you will thank me for later!
If you’ve been following Mind Body Glow for a while now, you’ve probably noticed my slight obsession with maca. This nutrition powerhouse is loaded with beneficial vitamins, which are essential for overall proper body function. It also promotes youthful skin, is a natural energy booster, and helps balance mood. It’s simple to add into coffee, smoothies, baking, etc.
2.) Cacao Powder-
If you struggle with the taste of smoothies, I totally understand. I faced that for years…until cacao powder took a place in my pantry. Cacao is a rich, chocolate-y powder that is a powerful antioxidant. In fact, it packs in 40 times the antioxidants of blueberries. It is the highest plant-based source of iron, a natural mood booster/ anti-depressant and has more calcium than cow’s milk. And the incredible chocolate flavor is an added bonus as well!
3.) Goji Berries-
These little gems of sweetness are essential for every smoothie I make. I personally prefer to make my smoothies super thick and eat them with a spoon so topping them with crunchy, chewy goji berries is the perfect addition. They’re full of antioxidants, promote healthy skin, detoxify the liver, improve immune function and have been proven to prevent cancer… Good stuff!
