Happy Sunday! Yesterday, I had the spacial opportunity to volunteer at one of my favorite places, Community First Village. I first came across this incredible foundation through a charity league my mom and I participate in. We went into it with no idea what to expect and left with a whole new perspective.
Community First Village is a unique 27-acre, master planned “village” that provides accessible, affordable housing/ community for chronically homeless or disabled people. Their goal is to be a supportive place for those in need to come and get a second chance. The first time I stepped foot in this place, I was in shock. The feeling of gratitude and grace in each and every person living/ working there is truly inspiring.
One of the best parts (in my opinion!) is their incredible garden/ farm land. Members of the community pitch in time maintaining all the produce and every Saturday its collected and given away at their Farmers Market…all free to the people living on site! Now, I’m a sucker for a good farmers markets and something about seeing exactly where it was harvested is pretty amazing.
Throughout the morning we set up bins overflowing with beautiful vegetables, herbs, bread, farm fresh eggs, etc. and help everyone pick out their grub for the week. I feel incredibly lucky to be able to fuel my body with fresh produce weekly, but I realized it’s also something I often take for granted. By offering these people nourishing, wholesome food straight from the farm (something many may not have been able to afford beforehand), is pretty amazing.
Below, I’ve included some of the pictures I took yesterday.
Make sure to check out their website (linked above^)! Wishing you all a lovely week ahead!
